Principal Research Associate, Executive Director Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited for a full-time Principal Research Associate who will play a key role as Executive Director of the Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy. This is an opportunity for a talented individual to make a major contribution to the development of a new field of research, about a topic that seems likely to be one of the most important of our time.

The purpose of the role is to lead the Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy with the aim of advancing, supporting and maintaining the University's national and international reputation for excellence in research. The role holder will be an experienced and skilled researcher demonstrating a track record of high quality independent and collaborative research and success in obtaining research funding. The role holder will have full leadership and operational responsibility for The Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy together with the CRASSH Director and may hold research grants in his/her own right. The Executive Director will have day-to-day responsibility for the Centre's operations, management, recruitment, and delivery of research programmes.

The Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy is the first node in a planned international network of academic centres established to rebalance power and restore agency in a world dominated by digital platforms. One of the roles of the Executive Director is to maintain and foster relationships with other nodes of the network. Hosted within Cambridge's Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH) and is supported by the Frontier Tech Initiative.


The funds for this post are available until 28 February 2025 in the first instance.

Minderoo Communications Coordinator (Fixed Term)

CRASSH invites applications for a Communications Coordinator to support, co-ordinate and deliver the Minderoo Centre's publicity and communications. CRASSH is one of the biggest and most active research centres in Europe with research programmes that produce over 300 research events each year, from high-profile public lectures to small, research-intensive workshops. The Minderoo Communications Coordinator is a core member of the Minderoo Centre team, working across all programmes to define key communications objectives, aims and messages of the Centre.

The successful applicant will be educated to degree level and will be responsible for the Centre's internal and external communications. They will be experienced in the uses of social media and print publicity and able to develop these to meet the needs of existing and new programmes. They will be editor of the Minderoo website, with overall responsibility for the content, writing copy and co-ordinating material from other content providers (academics, researchers, programme and project support staff). Experience with online and design software such as InDesign, Photoshop is required. A confident communications professional, you will represent the Centre at public events, build networks with School and central University departments, and be adept at leading and working within the CRASSH team as required.
 

The funding for this post is fixed until 28 February 2025. Start date is 1 January 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
